Problem Solving Week in Year 6

In maths this week we are focusing on Problem Solving. Today we looked at creating piles of 8 sticks. We started with 3 piles, one of 11, one of 7 and one of 6. We had to move sticks around using the rule, 'Move only as many sticks to another pile as it already contains, no more and no less.' It was tricky at first but using our knowledge of factors, addition and subtraction- we did it!! We then created other starting points and noticed a pattern, 2 piles had a odd amount of sticks and the 3rd had a even amount of sticks.
